Playing with vlogs
As regular readers will already know (after the Christmas Post) I have been experimenting with online videos recently and have now setup my first vlog (video blog) - a personal project called Diet Blog TV.
The site is a bit of an experiment as I want to know a few answers to the following:
- How easy is it to setup a vlog in Wordpress
- How easy is it to distribute video via channels like YouTube, MySpace Video, Facebook, etc
- How easy it is to get listed as a video podcast in iTunes
- What the best ways of driving traffic to a vlog are
I’ve only put up one (non-video) post at the moment but aim to get the first video diary up at the end of the week.
The site is not setup as a commercial site so doesn’t have any ads (for the moment at least there are no plans to do so either) and is just a bit of fun so please feel free to have a gander and let me know what you think as I get more videos online - maybe you even want to link to it for me!

A Shining example of Internet Marketing - US TV
I often wonder why the marketing and technology teams behind UK TV stations seem to be so bad. Channel 4 become the first UK TV station to launch a system that lets you watch the latest TV episodes online (although the BBC have been testing a similar service for the past 4 years). The site uses DRM and charges you for each program that you download and watch (DRM means that it only works for about a week of course).
No wonder TV Torrents are so popular.
Then look at NBC on the other side of the pond. I’m a bit fan of Heroes (have been for a number of months). Their website and marketing over there is amazing. There are forums (and good ones at that), there are character blogs, you can watch the whole show online (for free of course). Sounds good eh? Not finished yet; there is an online novel (a new comic book is put online after every episode) and there is even is a Wiki for gods sake!
I am utterly flabbergasted with the features that NBC have pilled into the site.
It’s not a one off either. Ugly Betty is another show that’s come over from the US. Channel 4’s site for it is basic and has little to offer. Then there is ABC in the US. Features galore. A Shop, Podcasts, Dedicated Websites for characters, Spin off online only TV shows; they even have a competition for people to design a dress to be features in the show!
So why on earth is the UK so behind the times? It’s 2007 and we can’t even watch our TV shows online!
Answers on a postcard please (or comment).

The Fantastic Google Click Hoax
This is quite possibly the most elaborate hoax that YouTube has created and extremely well put together.
The video claims that by sending a link to your gmail account and logging in and out for an unspecified amount of times, you will get past the “easter egg” and be able to access the Google TV Beta service to watch programs like Prison Break & The OC online. Some of the comments on YouTube are excellent.
I have been going at this for about an hour.. If anyone can help.. Please reply too this thanks
I tired in excess of 300 times, at home and work. Can anyone send an invite? kylereilly at gmail dot com
So i haven’t been able to get it…been trying for like an hour…this is quite depressing.

SOLUTION: Turn computer off. Wash out, with eather soap and water(windex will do fine).
WAIT- for the computer to dry off 1-2 hours.
AFTER- you will instantly notice an increase in your compouters speed.

Wii or PS3
In the US the battle is commencing between Sony and Nintendo for the title of “Best Next Generation Games Console”.
It’s PS3 vs Wii and if you have ever wondered about the differences between the two, the following video will help you decide which you should buy.
I’m most looking forward to the Wii, and Nintendo will have a head start in Europe since Sony were unable to produce enough units to release it in time for Christmas.

US TV - Heroes
It’s happened a few times, reading through forums on the net somewhere I come across the details of a TV show that’s running in the US (which always seems to have the good shows before us) downloaded a few episodes and become addicted to it. I end up having a marathon session and feel tired for the rest of the next day.
It happened with 24, it happened with Lost, it happened with Prison break and now it’s happened with Heroes.
Billed as €œan epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities€ it’s a bit like a darker TV version of X-Men.
You can see the trailer for the series via YouTube below - I would definitely give it a go.
